Do the riots surprise you?

We in Britain live in a country where the richest 10% are now 100 times better off than the poorest.

We live in a country where brutal cuts and enforced austerity measures are being put in place by our government- cuts and measures that hit the poorest, most vulnerable sections of society hardest.

We live in a country where there have been 333 deaths in police custody since 1998- and not a single conviction of any police officer has been had for any of them.

We live in a country where social mobility is worse than any other developed country.

Look at the context of the country we live in, at the way our entitled treat the dispossessed, the culture of institutionalised and government-supported classism, racism, heterosexism, cissexism, sexism and ableism.

If you’re surprised that in the last year we’ve erupted- the student protests, the university occupations, the strikes, the marches, the unrest on the streets- then you haven’t been paying attention.

Pay attention, beyond the burning cars and the sensationalist headlines of the riots, to the rot that surrounds them and lays dry kindling for each spark to set aflame.

Thank you, finally someone speaking some sense.

In all honesty, no, they do not. But the news, of course, would have you believe that this is all just random. I’m sure there’s some copy-catting going on here too, but what happened in Tottenham was real.

Than these riots should be against the fucking government and not just EVERYONE. People that have nothing to do with the government and are just living their lives are being affected like crazy. Their homes, jobs and even people they may know are being burned or looted or fucking killed. If youre angry with the police and the shit theyre doing than why the fuck would you start attacking your neighborhood? Why wouldnt you just go straight to attacking the police station? Attacking locally would just bring more fucking cops to your steps. These rioters are just plan fucking ignorant and a majority are just following the fucking radicals. It makes absolutely no sense to me why you would do this to your own home.

^ She always says the smartest things.

you may sit back in your house safely tucked away from everything that’s going and think what these people are doing is extreme but they have the right idea. Well maybe the country is slowly degrading, maybe the government is not helping, and becoming corrupt. You may not be surprised that there are riots. But to everyone who is jumping out of burning buildings, and to the people who have no workplace to go tomorrow, and to the families who’ve lost there homes and there children or there parents or loved ones, they know that there are just some ignorant thugs out on the streets destroying the town. They are making a statement against the government. they are ruining everyday peoples lives. OK so maybe deep down they have the right ideals, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are doing the wrong thing.
